Mosaic Madness

Watts Towers

Gale and I had a whirlwind mosaic tour of Los Angeles this past Saturday. We started out at Watts Towers to admire the folk art of Simon Rodia. This was Gale's first trip to L.A., and she expressed a desire to see the Towers. I've been there many times and had some wonderful guides, but on Saturday we had an especially knowledgeable and fun tour guide named Marqueeda. She was wearing BLUE lipstick, so I knew she'd be great. After touring the Towers, we watched a short movie about the artist, Simon Rodia and checked out the gift shop in the Watts Towers Community Art Gallery. We hopped back into the Crochet Car and scooted up the freeway to downtown L.A. for lunch at the HomeGirl Cafe. Gale particularly enjoyed the green goodness of Angela's Potion.

Next stop, the Bauer Pottery Showroom in Atwater. Bauer has a seconds sale the first weekend of every month and I've always wanted to go. In addition to Bauer, they also produce Russell Wright Pottery. I must save up my shekels and go back to purchase some of this gorgeous dinnerware!

We zoomed past Griffith Park to Hollywood and hung out for awhile at a private mosaic garden up in Beachwood Canyon. It's always inspiring to be in a peaceful Los Angeles Canyon, high above the hustle and bustle of the city in an artful mosaic garden!

That night we snagged Larry U. and went back to the Original Farmers Market for dinner where we ran into Lenise, Beth and Larry A. We hung out with them for awhile and listened to some live music.....a perfect end to a wonderful day!
